Beypore: New Berth Facility For Ships To Lakshadweep

Ships to and from Lakshadweep will get a berth at Beypore soon. Minister for Ports K. Babu said that Beypore would be developed as hub port of Lakshadweep. Kerala signed a supplementary MoU and lease agreement with the Union Territory recently. This port in Kozhikode was a buzzing centre of activity when trade with the Middle East was common in earlier decades.

The port will be soon developed, infrastructural facilities added and maintained. Beypore estuarine port is 10km from Kozhikode. The Beypore Lighthouse was built in 1977 and faces the Chaliyar river.

New Cruise From Kochi To Maldives

Cruise ports around the world have seen a rise in number of tourists – domestic and international. Ease of travelling, verdant new spots and an increased interest in exotic locations mean that cruise ships are busy throughout the year. This demand has led to the introduction of a cruise service from Cochin to Lakshadweep and Maldives later this year.

The country’s first indigenous cruise liner is here! Flagging off from the east coast port of Chennai, it can accommodate about a thousand passengers. The liner is called Amet Majesty. It will be travelling to and offering packages to Thailand, Maldives, Sri Lanka and a few Indian ports, including Port Blair in the Andamans. There will be separate plans for trips to ports on the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
